OmniGet: From Link to Local Artifact

Routing, queueing, and reuse with visible boundaries

Overview

OmniGet turns changing links into inspectable local artifacts by routing each source, carrying selected browser context, coordinating transfers in a queue, adapting to feedback, validating bytes, and recovering intent. Later chapters cover transcripts, study, plugins, and agents; the system improves continuity, not universal access, accuracy, or permission.

Learning outcomes
  • OmniGet is a local chain connecting source identity, authorized context, transfer, queue state, validation, and later reuse.
  • Routing matches direct files, playlists, platforms, and generic pages to different evidence and transfer contracts.
  • Browser sessions can supply selected context, but they do not grant access or bypass DRM and paywalls.
  • Queues, bounded adaptation, validation, and write-ahead recovery make failures visible without guaranteeing stable sources or perfect derivatives.
  • Local artifacts can support transcripts, study, and agent workflows, while plugins and cloud backends add capability and trust trade-offs.

FAQ

What is OmniGet designed to do?

OmniGet is designed to turn links and other media inputs into durable local artifacts through routing, authorized access context, queued transfer, validation, and later reuse. It does not guarantee universal access or bypass protected content.

How does OmniGet handle private or browser-only media?

OmniGet uses selected cookies, referers, user-agent data, or captured manifest text from the user's existing browser session when the desktop app lacks that context. The bridge carries authorized context; it does not defeat DRM, paywalls, or missing permission.

Why does OmniGet use different download paths?

OmniGet uses direct HTTP for URLs that identify files, HLS or DASH handling for manifests, and native or yt-dlp routes for platform pages and long-tail extraction. Each path matches different source evidence and failure modes.

Can OmniGet resume downloads after a restart?

OmniGet can replay queued intent and may resume .part bytes when the current source still accepts the request and validation succeeds. Recovery cannot restore expired links, logged-out sessions, deleted resources, or DRM access.

What can I do with an OmniGet download after it finishes?

An OmniGet artifact can be played, read, transcribed, converted, annotated, studied, or exposed through bounded agent interfaces. Transcripts, OCR, conversions, and summaries remain quality-dependent and should be checked against the source.
